Note : This post is post for those who are preparing IELTS for applying PR/Work visas
Which IELTS test is right for me?
There are two types of the IELTS test:
- IELTS Academic and
- IELTS General Training
IELTS General Training
The IELTS General Training test is for those who are going to English speaking countries for secondary education, work experience or training programs. It is also a requirement for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. The test focuses on basic survival skills in broad social and workplace contexts.
The IELTS test assesses your abilities in listening, reading, writing and speaking – in less than three hours.
There are two types of the IELTS test: IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. Listening and Speaking are the same for both tests, but the subject matter of the Reading and Writing components differs depending on which test you take.
The Listening, Reading and Writing components of all IELTS tests are completed on the same day, with no breaks in between them.The Speaking component, however, can be completed up to a week before or after the other tests. Your test centre will advise.
The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Informal Letter : In the context of informal letters are the one that you write to someone whom you know personally like your friend, family member, neighbour, classmate, colleague/co-worker.

following are the some useful expressions that can help you in expressing different kinds of the feeling in the letter and also fulfilling the purpose of letter.
Step 5: How to begin the letter
As it is important to for you to write the reason for writing the letter. You should begin the letter with the reason for writing the letter. However if you asked to introduce yourself, you should add the writing the letter after your introduction.
There are some starting lines that you mau use to get higher band score in letter writing.
Step 6: Follow the 3 Point rule
The 3-point rule says that if you have to complain, add maximum three aspects or points, and describe them accordingly.
for example:
You went to supermarket to buy something. However, when you came home, you find that they charged for certain item that you did not buy.
write a letter to the supermarket manager. In your letter....
-where and when you went there
-what item you did not buy
-what you expect to do
Here, in the second point, you may write only one item or you can go up to maximum 3 items. Some students write a long list of items so that they can write more words and can reach to 150 words mark soon. But such tendency in letter writing will not get good bands to those candidates.
If you asked to complain about service of a hotel or a company, again add maximum of 3 points.
Step 7: Write a letter in appropriate tone
Maintain a proper tone in the letter is very important for all the candidates. Some candidates makes the mistakes of being too polite in a complain letter or the become too aggressive in the same.
For example:
If you ask to complain to local to the local council regarding the problem of garbage or litter in your area, your tone should not be too polite, which is not appropriate for the situation.
polite : '' I would really be happy if councillor takes some keen interest in this problem and obliges us by solving the same at this earliest convenience"
aggressive: "The councillor should know the problems of the people of his area. If our problem will not be solved in three days, we will march towards the office of local council and will not let any government vehicle pass through roads in out locality."
you should write:
" I strongly assert that this problem must be addressed at the earliest. I am also sending a copy of this letter to the local newspaper."

The last sentence in all of them demands something from the candidates. Thus, they are labelled as 'D'(Demand).
